Description: The Red Lodge Music Festival is the oldest and most successful music festival in Montana serving nearly 200 students annually and presenting live performances by 30 professional musicians to audiences which would not otherwise have access to such opportunities. What began in 1964 as a week-long camp has expanded to a full-blown, nine day music festival. Students rehearse and perform under the tutelage of professional performers chosen not only for their expertise on their instruments, but also for their enthusiasm in working with students involved in instrumental music. Because of the high quality of faculty performances, the concerts are taped for later broadcast over regional and national public radio, bringing Red Lodge to national attention. Five evening faculty concerts, three student recitals, and a final band and orchestra performance complete a worthwhile and memorable festival experience for student campers, faculty members, and festival audiences. Even though most students will probably not pursue music careers, their involvement in the Red Lodge Music Festival will develop their appreciation and enjoyment of music for the rest of their lives.The year 2005 will mark the 42nd Annual Red Lodge Music Festival.
