Description: Forest Service Centennial Days Missoula: The National Museum of Forest Service History is open to visitors during the entire period - Exhibits and photographs of early Forest Service rangers. See the equipment they used. Obtain visitor information for Forest Service recreation opportunities.June 11th at the Ninemile Remount Depot is an all day event. Help celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the Remount Station. See demonstrations of mule packing, early building skills, crosscut saw sharpening, Dutch oven cooking, and blacksmithing. See historic photographs, a Fire Lookout display and learn how to locate a fire. Modern fire equipment and engines. On June 18th and 19th at the National Museum of Forest Service History, located at 6305 Highway 10 West, discover the history of the Forest Service since it was established in 1905. See historical exhibits of Forest Service work over the last 100 years. Early Smokey Bear fire prevention messages, old tools, diaries, and signs are on display. Visitors are encouraged to try early ranger skills using the compass, and Gunter's chain. The Forest Service Technology and Development Center at 5785 Highway 10 West: Learn how research develops equipment needed by the rangers. See examples of early equipment. Tour the modern research facility and see how the fire shelter that protects fire fighters is designed. Smokejumpers Visitor Center, a quarter mile west of the Missoula International Airport on Highway 10 West: Tour the Smokejumpers Center. See the equipment smokejumpers use today. Directions: Ninemile Ranger Station and Remount Depot - Huson, MT. Take Exit 82 I-90 to Ninemile Road and then about three miles to the Ranger Station .National Museum of Forest Service History, Forest Service Technology & Development Center and the Smokejumpers Visitor Center: Exit Interstate I-90 at the Missoula Airport Exit and then east about a half mile to Highway 10, then west a half mile to the Smokejumpers Center, one mile to the Technology & Development Center, one and half miles to the National Museum of Forest Service History.
