Description: Each April, Makoshika State Park in Glendive sponsors March for Parks, an environmental awareness event held in conjunction with Earth Day. Marchers collect pledges from community members and participate in a hike to raise awareness for open spaces, trails and recreational opportunities in local communities. Past March for Parks events have raised money to plant trees and repair existing trails.Makoshika State Park is Montana's largest state park and protects more than 11,000 acres of badlands topography. Outdoor recreational opportunities include picnicking, wildlife viewing, camping, and hiking. Makoshika has three established hiking trails and off-trail hiking opportunities to challenge the most serious of hikers. Regular visitor services, such as access to the park's visitor information center, gift shop, paleontological resources and interpretive programs will be accessible to visitors during the course of the event. Admission is free for event participants. For more information contact Makoshika State Park.
